A Safety Vacuum Limiting System (SVLS) will protect a bather from injurious suction force exposure by limiting the pressure differential at the suction outlet, or by sensing the presence of a bather at or in contact with the suction outlet and de-activating the suction force of the circulation pump.

This definition applies to to gravity systems and force/sonar activated devices that shut the pump off or cause air to be induced into the pump suction thereby limiting the pulling power of the pump.
