Bio
In 1981, Phillips founded Questar Pools and Spas. The second pool he built won a design award, and Phillips has continued to receive awards and accolades for his design and technical skills.
Prior to his work at Questar, Phillips worked at Collins Phillips Tool Corp., which manufactured precision measuring instruments for the aerospace industry. He also served as president of Harold Phillips Corp. (dba Pool King) — a firm that offered retail, repair and pool service with 550-1100 pool on weekly service — from 1975-1994.
Phillips has served as a member and executive with various trade organizations, including the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals and SPEC.
In addition to his role as a presenter with Genesis 3, Phillips has provided his insight at various industry trade events' educational programs. His presentation topics include: Water in Transit Design & Working with High-End Clients; Vanishing-Edge Design; Advanced Pool Design; Pool Design in Natural Environments; and more.
Notable Achievements
- Questar Pools and Spas has won well in excess of 100 local and international design awards including the "International Best in Show" and Masters of Design awards in 2009 and 2003 from Pool & Spa News.
- Phillips' projects have been featured in: Architectural Digest, San Diego magazine, Decor & Style, San Diego Home & Garden, Custom Builder, Home, Pool & Spa News, Better Home & Gardens' Garden, Deck and Landscape magazine and more. He's also been profiled in The New York TImes, The Wall St. Journal, Millionaire Magazine, Splash! Magazine and Piscine Oggi.
- Boston-based Robb Report identified Questar Pools/Skip Phillips as "Internationally... the most influential pool designer." He also was selected as one of the elite "Club 21" members in 1994.
