Structure
NESPA consists of five chapters:
- Capital (upstate New York)
- Connecticut
- Long Island
- Metro NY-NJ (southern New York and northern Jersey)
- Penn-Jersey (eastern Pennsylvania and southern Jersey)
History
In 1958, pool professionals in the northeastern United States banded together to form the Northeast Swimming Pool Association. Later, the organization became the Northeast Spa & Pool Association, a name it retains to this day.
NESPA also has been affiliated with APSP (formerly NSPI) for more than 40 years, first as its Northeast Chapter and later as the administrator of the five APSP chapters located in an area known as Region 1.
NESPA owns and produces the Atlantic City Pool & Spa Show, which debuted in the early 1980s. One of the industry’s largest events, it draws more than 9,000 people to Atlantic City, N.J., for four days of educational, business and social activities annually.
The Professional Training Institute, which began as NESPA’s Hands-On Training Institute in 1984, offers educational sessions throughout the Northeast every year. The seminars and workshops aim to upgrade members’ skills in building, service, management and retail operations.
Scholarships
The H.J. “Duke” Ellington Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship aims to promote, recognize and honor good deeds. Each applicant, typically a high school senior, is sponsored by a NESPA member and exemplifies scholastic achievement, community involvement and good works.
Anthony Rizzo Memorial Scholarship
This fund was created to enable employees to take advantage of NESPA education programs. Each applicant must be nominated by a member firm, and the scholarship used to offset the recipient’s costs of attending NESPA’s Professional Training Institute.
